Brandywine Bay Beach, Tortola BVI

There’s nothing more intriguing than the unique history that makes up many of the beaches in the British Virgin Island. One such point of interest is located on the British Virgin Island of Tortola. For anyone who’s ever been interested in how the beautiful beaches have been cultivated, you should take a stroll over to Brandywine Bay.

It’s interesting to know that Brandywine Bay, no matter how gorgeous it is (and it is quite phenomenal), is not only a product of nature. The BVI had a great deal of sand --several thousand tons, to be exact-- from a variety of harbors all over the island of Tortola to Brandywine Bay. Though it is a natural bay of beautiful sand, over the years it has shown signs of its age. As the water continued to hit the shoreline, the bay began to erode until it was a substantial problem that simply had to be remedied --thusly, sand was brought in to solve the issue.

Beyond its intriguing history, Brandywine Bay is a lovely stretch of sand. Though it’s not exactly a hot spot for visitors, it does have its pluses. For one, the water is soft and refreshing for anyone who wants to get in a good deal of swimming. There is also ample opportunity to get in a bit of snorkeling if you desire a closer look at the beauty that rests beyond the surface of the Caribbean. It’s the perfect place to do some shelling --that is, collecting the seashells that wash up on Brandywine’s shores. If you’re really one for exploring the mysteries of the bay, you may have a great deal of fortune if you bring your own spade and bucket.

The most incredible aspect of this beach is that it’s very rarely visited by tourists. It’s just not a happening place --there’s very little in the way of amenities to Brandywine Bay, no shops, one restaurant that’s only open for dinner, and no bars. If you’re the type of traveler who likes seclusion when enjoying the beach, then Brandywine is just the place for you to stretch out on your beach blanket and enjoy the warm Caribbean breeze with a book and a bottle of your favorite beverage --which you’ll have to bring, of course. Brandywine is a haven for those who want to feel as though they’re king or queen of their own private oasis.
