Elizabeth Beach, Tortola BVI
Sometimes, even in the tourist sensation that is the Caribbean, you’ll find some of the most incredible beaches and discovery that almost nobody’s ever heard of them. One of those beaches is located on the British Virgin Island of Tortola. For those who get out to the East End of the beautiful island, with great luck you’ll find the unbelievable Elizabeth Beach.
Located between the lush greenery of Guana Island and the heavy traffic of the Lambert Resort, Elizabeth is one of the quietest beaches you’ll find on this island. Not only is this little piece of Caribbean paradise almost completely secluded, you’ll be able to take in some breathtaking views from the many hills that surround the area. You’ll also get to take advantage of the swimming pool, swim up bar, and hotel suites that inhabit this quiet hamlet.
Though it’s not very highly populated, there are a few villas on Elizabeth Beach that are privately owned. At most, you’ll run into --and get to know-- some of the locals as they get off work to spend time on the beach soaking up the rays. You’ll also notice how massive this beach is. As one of the largest on Tortola, you’ll have all the privacy you need to feel as though you own the island, enjoying the soft Caribbean breeze in relative seclusion no matter where you happen to walk along the shoreline. If there is any problem with the expansive nature of the beach, it’s simply that there isn’t enough shade between the water and your beach towel. Having said that, it would be wise for anyone who wants to take a break from lounging and have a bit of a go in the Caribbean waters to bring some closed toed shoes along with them.
If you get the chance to find this beautiful hideaway, you simply must take a swim. The water is gorgeous --a beautiful shade of turquoise. It’s also incredibly easy to enter and soft underfoot. The snorkeling isn’t perfect, but it’s interesting if you get a chance to take a trip beyond the surface. There aren’t any dive shops not much in the way of amenities; however, if you find yourself needing a respite from the beach, you should head over to Lambert Resort. This is a beautiful spot that’s quiet and large enough to give you room to breathe in the beautiful Caribbean air.
