Josiah's Bay Beach, Tortola BVI

There are some spots in the Caribbean that are considered some of the best places to get in some exciting water sports. On the British Virgin Island of Tortola, one such place where those who enjoy the surf can get in a great wave or two is Josiah’s Bay. If you’re interested in living life on the edge, Josiah’s may be the place for you.

Josiah’s Bay has been heralded as a surfing paradise, a place for those who want to flex their muscles in the water. The north swell is just perfect for those who like to toss and tumble in the water --and what better waters than those of the warm waves in the Caribbean Sea? If you’re looking to find the best waves in Tortola, you should visit Josiah’s Bay during the winter months --when the low pressure systems are rolling in from the United States and hit the island just perfectly.

If you’re interested in getting in a bit of a swim, you’d be well warned to know what you’re doing. It’s not exactly a great place for those who aren’t experts, so to speak. The water can be quite temperamental --hence why surfers love to get their boards wet in the Caribbean waters on this side of Tortola. If you’re not too sure about your swimming skills, you probably should keep the swimming to the professionals. The undertow can be quite treacherous, and unless the weather cooperates, the waters can be a bit intolerable for the less secure swimmers.

If you’re interested in doing a bit of exploring, you’ll find yourself on Guana Island, right across from Josiah’s Bay. It’s gorgeous landscape provides the perfect backdrop for those who want to lie out on the sand and let the warm Caribbean breeze wash over them. Those more inclined towards getting in touch with underwater wildlife will love this location --the snorkeling and scuba diving opportunities are immense and unbelievable.

There aren’t many amenities available; however, one’s never too far from the Tamarind Club Hotel if there’s something that you desperately need. There are two restaurants on the Josiah’s Bay, but you can also sample the food form the Tamarind Club. Those who love the surf --or those who just love the beach-- will appreciate how quiet it usually is on this little Caribbean paradise. So, whether you’ve got a board or beach towel, you’ll fall in love with Josiah’s Bay.
