Little Bay Beach, Tortola BVI
There are some places in the Caribbean that give visitors an adventure even before they get to the beach. In the British Virgin Islands, there are plenty of hidden gems that only the most adventurous dare attempt to find. On the British Virgin Island of Tortola, you’ll find a couple of those beaches scattered throughout --that is, of course, if you’re able to find them. One such location is Little Bay.
As much as Tortola is thought of as the little secret of the Caribbean, Little Bay is thought of as truly “Nature’s Little Secret”. It makes sense if you think of the location. This diminutive beach is discreetly located on the East End of Tortola. It’s tucked away behind Lambert Beach down a steep and rather treacherous road --four wheel drive is most definitely a must. To the traveler who likes to live on the edge, once you’ve made it past the steep hill and the bumpy dirt road, you’ll come across what can only be described as a little slice of paradise.
The beach’s beauty is beyond comprehensible. The sand is soft underfoot and pristine as can be, leading into the clear waters of the Caribbean. More than just gorgeous, it’s quiet. There’s a serenity here that goes beyond the fact that the Little Bay is very secluded and rarely populated. It’s a calm that can only be thought of as the purest essence of the Caribbean. The beach is wide and perfect for those who like to get in some beach action --football or soccer, volleyball, etc. The water is also inviting --the snorkeling and the swimming are fantastic as the water is easy to enter, soft underfoot, and teeming with wildlife just waiting to be discovered.
Little Bay is one of those beaches that really must be seen to be believed. It’s its own quiet oasis for anyone who wants to get away from the customary hustle and bustle of the more tourist conscious beaches on Tortola. Because it’s so hard to find and even harder to get to, this beach is perfect for those who want to lie out and just dream away, read a book, or even just lounge under the sun. Whether you want to play in the sand or in the warm waters of the Caribbean, you’ll have all the opportunities in the world to do so on Little Bay.
