Shark Bay Beach, Tortola BVI

There are so many surprises in store for anyone who decides to visit the British Virgin Islands. Without a doubt, some of the most surprising and enticing beaches and bays in the Caribbean can be found on the British Virgin Island of Tortola. Not only do some of these bays act as other points of interest, they are equally impressive in terms of scope and unparalleled beauty. One such surprising point of interest on Tortola is Shark Bay.

Located atop the incredible point on Brewer’s Bay, Shark Bay is, in fact, an 18.4 acre national park. As such, the beauty therein is unquestionable. There’s something about the way that the wind dances through the trees that creates an atmosphere that can’t be denied. This North Shore bay is perfect for those who are interested in finding something a little different as they travel through the BVI’s biggest island. The landscape is breathtaking, the sights unforgettable. If you get a chance to make it to Shark Bay, you won’t be disappointed.

What’s so intriguing about Shark Bay is that there are a number of caverns and cave structures, all of which were formed by natural boulders that have gathered over the years. These cave structures are perfect for those who like to lounge about in the glorious sun of that overlooks the islands. It’s also a great place to rest your weary bones after you’ve taken the hike to get to Shark Bay. Be warned, however. These caves used to house hundreds of bats --and though there aren’t nearly as many (due in part to the emergence of human activity in the area), there are sure to be a few winged homeowners who wouldn’t mind taking a trip in your hair if you get too close.

Shark Bay is an excellent hiking location. There are posted signs throughout the bay used to guide you along the perfect trail for doing a bit of exploration. Just above Brewer’s Bay, the road leads to and through Shark Bay, so you have a great deal of land to cross. Be sure to pack sufficient hiking shoes; this isn’t a hike for those who aren’t ready for the work. You’ll also have fun with the rock scramble you’re sure to encounter on your adventure. Shark Bay is most definitely the active visitor’s getaway. IF you like to hike or explore, you’ll adore the sights and sounds of Shark Bay.
