Trellis Bay Beach, Tortola BVI
Even in the Caribbean there are those places that aren’t known much for the beach activity. In fact, a great many of the bays tend to be disappointing to those looking for a place to lounge about all day in the sand. However, you’ll find that even these beaches-fewer locations are perfect for a particular type of visitor. If you find yourself on the British Virgin Island of Tortola, you may come across a few of these bays and wonder what the entire hubbub’s about. One such bay is Trellis Bay, but don’t be fooled by its lack of beach; it’s still got so much to offer the wayward traveler.
There is a beach, but not much of a beach that you could enjoy for its lounge ability. In terms of its beach landscape, it’s mostly overrun by villas and cottages --making it, in fact, a beach community more than a private beach for lounging. Even if you find yourself walking along the shoreline, you’ll find that there aren’t many opportunities to engage in any meaningful water or beach sports. The beach is crowded with locals and tourists while the waters are full of yachts, dinghies, and motorboats, all anchoring and giving their commodores the opportunity to enjoy what the community has to offer.
However, if you’re the type that wants to get a feel for the real human side of the Caribbean, Trellis Bay is the perfect place for you. As it is a popular anchoring location on the island of Tortola, you’ll be able to do an immense amount of people watching as well as interacting. You’ll also be able to get in a bit of windsurfing away from the anchored vessels. You’ll also find that it’s a great location for those who want to do a bit of authentic Caribbean shopping --or even just get a few things for the trip back home.
You’ll find some of the most famous cafes and eateries in Tortola on Trellis Bay --D’ Best Cup, De Loose Mongoose, and Aragorn’s Studio. Its lack of beach space in no way indicates that this beach has nothing to offer. Quite the contrary, you’ll find a great deal of activities worth engaging in once you’ve taken a look around Trellis Bay. It’s a great place for those who like to keep themselves busy and who love to meet new people. Don’t let the lack of lounging space on the white sand deter you from visiting this great location.
