Frederiksted Shopping, St. Croix USVI

There’s nothing quite like taking a shopping excursion in the Caribbean. St. Croix offers some incredible opportunities to get in a bit of a shopping spree and see even more of the beauty that resides within the beach laden paradise. Frederiksted is host to some marvelous shopping facilities and small merchant stands that offer you anything from custom made jewelry to water sports equipment.

Though Frederiksted isn’t as busy as it was a few years ago or as buzzing as the bigger town of Christiansted, that doesn’t stop it from being a noteworthy place of commercial intrigue. The small town has a burgeoning shopping community of merchants and local sellers that are at your disposal to offer you some of the crafted beauty of St. Croix. If you’re going to do any shopping, you must visit these merchant stands and get a taste of real Frederiksted life. There are, of course, tourist targeted gift shops, but if you’re interested in getting a personal touch from the island (instead of a corny T-shirt chronicling your adventures on the island), then your best bet is to visit the merchant stands.

If you’re interested in getting the gear you need to take part in some of the remarkable snorkeling or scuba diving that St. Croix has to offer, then you must visit one of the few water sports shops. These fully functional shops have any and everything you could possibly want and need in order to make your water play as fun and worthwhile as possible. You’d be hard pressed to find a water sports shop that didn’t give you exactly what you needed. Seeing as St. Croix is famous for its snorkeling opportunities, these shops and its merchants are there to give you the equipment and instruction you need to make your trip not only incredibly fun, but also incredibly safe.

Of course, even in a small town such as Frederiksted, there is a bit of uniqueness that makes it stand out among the crowd. Beyond the stellar local merchant stands, visitors are able to visit the major shopping ports via cruise ship. If you’re lucky enough to do so, you’ll not only be able to get in on some of the local shopping action, you’ll be able to do so in exquisite and luxurious style. Once you step off of one of the luxury liners, you’ll be sent head first into the local tastes and sounds of a St. Croix market centre.

Don’t be alarmed if the local merchant stands are a bit intimidating at first. It’s natural to feel a bit awkward working with local merchants; however, you’ll soon find that these sellers are more than accommodating and incredibly kind --let’s face it; they’re keen on getting your patronage. There’s nothing more true to Caribbean form than interacting with the locals for all your shopping needs. Buck up and be sure that you’ve brought enough spending money to get all the souvenirs that you crave and the local fare that you can handle.
