Caneel Hawksnest Beach, St. John USVI
One of the most incredible aspects of Caneel Bay is its exclusivity. Though the beach is accessible by sea, it’s restricted to those who are guests of the resort. As such, you’ll never feel as though you’re being pressured to make room for anyone; you’ll have the beach at your fingertips without feeling overcrowded. As a part of Caneel Bay is Caneel Hawksnest.
Once known as Sheep Dock, this part of the beach is perfect for stretching out and enjoying the warm Caribbean breeze in relative peace. No matter what you’re interested in, whether you’re a wanderer and want to explore the Hawksnest Trail or you’d rather spend the day lounging out in the sun, Caneel Hawksnest is the perfect place for you to explore your options and take in as much of the Caneel Bay beauty as you possibly can. The Hawksnest Bay Trail is accessible through the front gate of the resort. The trail is less than a mile long --running about .6 miles-- and runs between the Caneel Bay Fitness Trail and the Hawksnest Beach. As you walk along you’ll find beautiful scenery to rest against, as there are benches that provide incredible sitting spots to quietly reflect on your day. As you come to the summit of the hill of the trail, you’ll be able to get a remarkable view of Hawksnest Bay.
If you want to enjoy the serenity of the sea, you’ll just love the water at Hawksnest Beach. The water is clear and tranquil, providing the perfect wading atmosphere for those who just want to take it easy or for children who want to get the feel of the warm Caribbean waters at their ankles. You’ll also feel as though you own the beach, as it’s mostly secluded --due the exclusivity of the beach to only those who are guests staying at the resort. On any given day you may see no more than 10 people who want to take in some of the beautiful sights of the beach.
As the beach is nestled within the resort, you’re never too far from anything that you may need. From food to drinks, even to get in a bit of tourist shopping, you’ll be able to get whatever you need and anything you could possibly want while visiting Hawksnest Beach. All you have to do is think it and it’s yours in an instant. Easily accessible by foot or by vehicle, Hawksnest Beach has been a popular sight for locals and visitors alike. There are picnic tables, barbecue pits, and even restrooms should you need them.
You’ll love the chance to snorkel on Hawksnest. The colorful reef is always an incredible sight. There’s a plethora of underwater wildlife for you and your family to get acquainted with: parrotfish, grunt, fry, and goatfish. There’s even a little offset --Little Hawksnest Beach-- that is perfect if you want a bit more seclusion and the chance to just sit and enjoy the beautiful sunset as it hits the Caribbean waters.
