Honeymoon Bay Beach, St. John USVI
There are moments when you’d rather take some time and enjoy the natural bliss of the Caribbean. If you’re the type of vacationer who likes to take walks, experience nature, and bypass all the hustle and bustle of tourist season, then you’ll absolutely adore the serenity and natural beauty of Honeymoon Bay. Known for its majestic beauty, Honeymoon Bay is perfect for anyone wanting to get a real taste of the nature that’s prevalent on the island of St. John.
Honeymoon Bay is one of those places that capture you from the moment you step onto the trail to get there. It’s incredibly easy to get to the beach by vehicle; however, if you truly want to experience the raw, uncorrupted beauty of St. John, you’ll take the trail from one of three locations. The shortest walk is from Mongoose Junction, the easiest is most certainly from the Caneel Bay Resort. If you’d rather take a hike to the beach as soon as you get off your ferry and step onto the platform at Cruz Bay, then you definitely have the option of starting your journey from town. However, no matter where you start your destination, you’re going to come face to face with some of the most incredible forest scenery you’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing.
As a part of the St. John landscape, Honeymoon Bay is a brilliant example of what this Caribbean island has to offer. From Honeymoon Bay, you have an incredible view of a number of islands that are nearby --those of Pillsbury Sound. Gazing over one of the many overlooks contained on Honeymoon Bay, you’ll be able to see St. Thomas, Thatch Cay, Grass Cay, Mingo Cay, Lovango Cay, Ramgoat Cay, and Henley Cay. You’ll also be able to see past the US Virgin Islands right to its British counterpart --to the island of Jost Van Dyke.
Of course, you probably didn’t take that incredible hike from Cruz Bay just to sit on some rocks and look into the distance (no matter how gorgeous the view from one of the overlooks). There are great opportunities to get some snorkeling and a bit of swimming in the warm waters of the Caribbean. The waters are crystal clear, an incredible shade of turquoise, and indicative of the kind of quality that you’ll encounter when taking a quick dip. The snorkeling is beautiful, especially along the reef of Salomon Bay. The reef is brilliantly colorful and the variety of fish is plentiful. The sea floor between Salomon and Honeymoon Bays is made up of hills and holes. Among them reside eels, worms, shrimp, clams, and crabs. You won’t be short of entertainment while swimming in these calm waters.
There are very few amenities (a garbage bin and a couple of portable toilets); however, you can always bring your own provisions to ensure that your experience on this incredible beach is as wonderful as you could ever imagine.
