Jumbie Bay Beach, St. John USVI

There’s nothing more romantic than a trip for two to a Caribbean island. If you’ve found yourself on St. John, however, you’ll find that sharing private moments on a beach is a bit of a stretch. Even on some of the beaches that are more secluded, there are locals and fishermen who frequent these spots in order to keep the integrity of their home island. However, there is a place that was once so secluded that lovers could take secret trysts on the beach whenever they chose. To truly get away for a private honeymoon, you must take a trip to Jumbie Bay.

Named after the African malevolent spirit Djambe, this beach is almost nonexistent to the travelling eye. It’s so secluded, in fact, that it can’t be seen from vehicles coming through or boats sailing back and forth from Cruz Bay. At one point it was only a donkey trail and even fewer people knew its location. This is the perfect spot for those couples who truly want a lover’s retreat on the beach. Because of its initial use a getaway for secret lovers, it was once called Honeymoon Bay --when Salomon and Honeymoon Bays was still one large bay.

If you’re interested in maintaining an incredible amount of privacy, Jumbie Bay is just the place for you. All you have to do is bring a beach blanket and whatever other amenities that can make your stay as pleasurable as possible and you’ve got yourself the perfect hideaway in the Caribbean. There’s plenty of shade emanating from the multiple sea grape trees that line the coves of this beach. The shoreline is covered in smooth beach rock; however, the sand you’ll feel as soon as you step into the water is soft and absolutely pleasant underfoot.

Now, seeing as the beach is exposed to trade winds that oftentimes sweep through from neighboring north shore beaches, the waters can get a bit choppy around Jumbie Bay --especially when it’s particularly windy. However, a cool and calming breeze often also whispers through the beach, giving a cool down to those who have spent the day lounging in the sun or running along the soft sands of the beach. Lest we forget, the view from Jumbie Bay is to die for. From the beach one is able to see Trunk Bay and the islands of the British Virgin Island of Jost Van Dyke, Green Cay, Whistling Cay, Trunk Cay, and Great Thatch.

As there aren’t any facilities to be found on the beach --save for a single garbage bin-- you’ll have to bring your own provisions to ensure that your romantic beach getaway is everything that you’ve imagined and much more. Jumbie Bay is for those who want to spend time reminiscing about the first moment they knew they were in love. If you want to get away to a luxuriously gorgeous beach and rekindle the flame of love between you and your lover, you simply must visit the beach of Jumbie Bay.
