Klein Bay Beach, St. John USVI
There are a great many large beaches that inhabit the beautiful island of St. John. There’s so much to explore, so much to experience that it can all get a bit heady and overwhelming. If you’re looking for a place to just take in the scenery and breathe in the fresh sea air --without having to walk all over the beach to find the perfect spot to do so-- then you’ll have to take a trip to Klein Bay. The area is amenable to anyone who wants to simply enjoy a day lounging on the beach without being disturbed by busy tourists.
Klein Bay is a relatively small cobblestone beach --hence its namesake (Klein is Dutch German for “small”). The stones are beautiful, perfect for mini keepsakes from your trip the US Virgin Islands. They are also polished so there’s no need to worry about painful punctures to the feet. This is the perfect location for getting laying down a beach blanket and having a picnic next to the gorgeous Caribbean waters that lap up the shoreline. If you want to take a bit of walk through the water, you’ll notice that the porcelain coral that lines the shore leads into the water for about twenty feet (with a depth of about three feet). After the coral ends, there are some larger rocks are reef until one reaches the bottom of \ to meet soft sand and sea grass.
Access to the road leading toe Klein Bay is private; however, there haven’t been any plans to actually rope off the area. So, feel free to access the beach by this route and make it easy on yourself --it’s incredibly easy to get to via vehicle. If you so choose, you can take a stroll along the road leading there; it’s not particularly treacherous. So, you’ll have the opportunity to get in some of the sights that surround the beach and then make your way to the beach for a day of leisure.
If you’re looking for a nice place to get in some water sports, you’re in luck. Klein Bay has great snorkeling along the rocks on both sides of it. As the majority of the underwater life is hidden among the sea grass, you may be in for a bit of a surprise as you take a dive. Many of the underwater wildlife may take a peek at the visitors who come through looking for someone to play with. If you’re patient, you’ll eventually get to see majestic sea turtles, some incredible conch, and even spotted eagle rays.
Swimming is also an excellent option for this small bay. The water going in is a bit patchy; however, the water is cool, calm, and provides the perfect opportunity for visitors to float along the soft current that sweeps in from the sea.
If you’re looking for a someplace small and secluded in which you can get a peaceful afternoon of gazing at the Caribbean horizon, then you simply must venture to Klein Bay.
