St. John SCUBA Diving -- Continue
The water is calm and serene, giving you the opportunity to take in as much of the St. John sea life that you can handle. There are also numerous bays that have been protected in order to give those visitors who would like the chance to explore the underwater culture of one of the Caribbean’s most incredible islands. Those who have never experienced scuba diving have no need to worry. There are professional instructors on hand to help you through your first scuba experience. There are also boat dives that get you to the smaller cays that surround St. John, giving you the chance to interact with the underwater flora and fauna.
Because the sea is uncorrupted and completely natural, you may come face to face with animal life that you’ve never even imagined in your wildest dreams. Remember, the reefs are fragile and very much alive. Always practice caution when getting close --no standing or touching, for instance, as human contact can and will destroy the beautiful coral. Along with the coral, you’ll encounter some fascinating creatures: barracuda, the “Tiger of the Sea”; basslet, a colorful, shy reef fish; long-spined black urchin, dangerous to the touch (so do yourself a favor and don’t touch); sea turtles, large and elegant; squirrel fish, it may seem strange to the eye, but it’s completely harmless and immensely interesting; and the trumpet fish, this color shifting fish can be found hanging upside down waiting for its miniscule prey.
There’s no end to the amount of intriguing things you’ll discover on your scuba dive. Whether you’re an expert or you’re just learning, scuba diving in St. John is an eye opening experience that you won’t soon forget. Most, of not all, of the instructors and guides are patient are ready to give you a glimpse into the glorious underwater world that is the Caribbean Sea.
