Coki Point Beach, St. Thomas USVI

You want to get away from the everyday tourist attractions that saturate the US Virgin Islands? How about getting the chance to hang out with the locals of St. Thomas? If you’re more interested in getting immersed in the Caribbean culture, then you need to take yourself to Coki Point. It does get a bit crowded throughout the year (and especially around the week-ends); however, the location and the range of facilities at your disposal is enough to make anyone keep coming back for more.
The sand is white, clean, and so soft you’d swear you were walking on the clouds. It’s perfect for those who want to take the whole family to the island to experience some of the beauty and natural ambiance that the Caribbean has to offer. There’s a rock outcropping that makes for some incredible opportunities to go snorkeling with the kids. But if you’re more the type to go for structure more than adventure, then take a ride to Coral World where you and the kids can get up close and personal with the wild life.

You won’t find water much clearer than at Coki Point. It’s some of the most serene waters that you’ll find in the US Virgin Islands. If snorkeling is your passion, then be prepared for an underwater adventure. There are schools upon schools of colorful fish just below the surface. They congregate around the coral formations that are prevalent in the Caribbean. And if you’re the social type, you can talk to any of the locals and they’ll be more than happy to lend you hand in making your Coki Point experience worthwhile. They carry small zipper bags full of food for you to feed the fish as you navigate through the pristine waters.
If you prefer a more deep sea adventure, then you should consider taking scuba diving courses and taking a look at the life under the sea. St. Thomas’s number one tourist attraction is Coral World Ocean Park and Underwater Observatory. If you so choose, take a trip with the family to this five acre marine paradise --give the kids a chance to touch some of the underwater wildlife or experience the Caribbean Reef Encounter, an 80.000 gallon tank with a 360 degree view of the coral reef.

There’s no end to the amount of fun you can have at Coki Point. Beyond the Coral World tourist phenomena, visitors can enjoy a Sea Trek or a Coki Point Beach dive where you can try what’s known as snuba --a cross between snorkeling and scuba diving. You wear a mask and use a 20-foot long air hose which is connected to a compressor on a boat, giving you a chance to go a bit further than a snorkel would but not a far underwater if you’re not comfortable.
As far as tourist areas go, Coki Point is perfect for the whole family, with all the amenities you’ll ever need --nearby restaurants, snorkeling gear and instructions, and water parks. You’re sure to have an endlessly magnificent experience.
