Fortuna Bay Beach, St. Thomas USVI
Sometimes you want to just take in all the beauty that the Caribbean has to offer without all the fuss of commercialism. Fortuna Bay may, in fact, be the destination that you’ve been looking for. It’s a perfect location for those who want to find the best place to drink in the beauty of the US Virgin Islands.
Located on the West End of the US Virgin Islands, Fortuna Bay is one of the least developed stretches of land. Its sparse development makes it prime for those who want to have a private time in the Caribbean --very little people come to these portions for their lack of development. If you’ve also got an artist’s eye, you’ll love the chance to take photos of the gorgeous skyline. If you’re adventurous, you can take a trip to Fortuna Overlook and look beyond the sea to find some of the smaller islands around Fortuna Bay. It’s the perfect place to get an eyeful of the beauty that is the Caribbean.
It’s quite easily accessible. There’s a paved road that you can access and walk or take a little drive to. The beach itself is a bit rocky, so not ideal for taking long jogs or doing a great deal of heavy beach activities; however, there’s nothing stopping you for setting up a bit of a campfire and having your own little family picnic. The luscious green landscape is also the perfect backdrop for anyone wanting the chance to drink in the natural, raw beauty of the US Virgin Islands free of all the trappings of tourist attractions.
The waves do tend to cling to the shore rather roughly, so this makes Fortuna Bay not all that ideal for swimming or doing a lot of snorkeling. The land slopes ever so slightly, but it makes the view absolutely spectacular no matter where you stand. There aren’t any amenities to speak of, so if you’re interested in spending the day at Fortuna, you should come prepared with whatever food and provisions you’ll need to ensure that your trip is a success.
Beyond the beautiful facade, there isn’t much to be said about Fortuna Bay. The beach isn’t particularly inviting --as the shore is mostly rocky. It is ideal for anyone who wants to take a few pictures of the Caribbean skyline, as the nights are incredibly clear from Fortuna Bay. The water is clear, not incredibly peaceful, but beautiful enough to capture the sunset as it glistens off of the water.
If you’re heart is really in the uncorrupted beauty of the US Virgin Islands, then Fortuna Bay is just right for you. Be sure that you bring a camera and plenty of food if you plan to spend your day exploring the rustic, untamed shores of Fortuna. Though not necessarily ideal for a day of swimming and snorkeling, it is ideal for anyone wanting to get away from the mainstream hustle and bustle of the tourist attractions on the most populated beaches.
