Hendrik Bay Beach, St. Thomas USVI
If you’re looking for the perfect island seclusion to get away and enjoy the Caribbean breeze to your heart’s content, then you should try to find your way to Hendrik Bay. You won’t find many tourists here; this land is highly underdeveloped. It’s also one of three beaches on the West End of St. Thomas only accessible via boat. So if you’re interested in complete seclusion, no worries, and a bit of an adventure, then Hendrik Bay is just the beach for you.
There isn’t much to do in terms of the typical tourist fare that follows the more populated beaches in the US Virgin Islands; however, if you’re the adventurous traveler --only enjoying the company of the sand and the sea-- then Hendrik Bay is the perfect location for you to get the peace and quiet you desire as you travel through the Caribbean. The beach is beautiful --sandy white with a few trees lining the shoreline. And the water is crystal clear and picturesque. If you want to get in a bit of swimming, then you’ll be pleased to know that the water is calm most of the time.
For those moments when the water gets a bit choppy, you’ll want to entertain yourself with the expansive sand laid before you. Bring a net and a ball and enjoy a little beach volleyball. Or if you’re more of the rugged type, perhaps get in a nice game of beach footy (soccer, for you Americans out there). It’s nice to get the opportunity to hang out with your friends, finding your entertainment away from the hustle and bustle of the main islands of St. Thomas.
As is the case with most of the islands on the West End of St. Thomas, there isn’t much in the way of amenities. These are a few of the last remaining undeveloped pieces of beach that you’ll find in St. Thomas, and as such, there aren’t very many opportunities for you to buy anything by which you can remember the US Virgin Islands. There also aren’t any restaurants, beach side bars, or water sports huts in the near vicinity. As a result, you’ll have to bring your own provisions to ensure that your time spent on Hendrik Bay is as wonderful as you want it to be.
As picturesque as Hendrik Bay is you would be absolutely remiss if you didn’t at least bring a disposable camera. The views are stunning, the raw nature of the bay a great subject for any photographer’s eye. You may also want to think about brining your own snorkeling equipment and waterproof camera to get a glimpse at some of the beauty that awaits you below the surface. The wildlife may be a bit scarce, but there’s always something to capture off the shores of the Caribbean Sea. If you’re looking for the perfect day of solitude and serenity, Hendrik Bay may just be the place for you. Take a trip off the beaten path and enjoy the peace of sunset with someone special.
