Santa Maria Bay Beach, St. Thomas USVI

Sometimes you just want to drift along the coast of the St. Thomas without having to worry about running into pesky tourists. If this is the case for you, then you’ll absolutely adore the serenity and seclusion of Santa Maria Bay. There isn’t anything quite like going along at your own leisure without having to worry about being overrun by eager tourists, looking for a cool spot to hang out.

Santa Maria Bay is another one of the beaches on the West End of the US Virgin Islands --meaning completely secluded and mostly underdeveloped. As a result, this beach is only accessible via the sea. Get yourself a boat ride, rent a dinghy, or find out when the next vessels leave the ports and be well on your way to enjoying the quite serenity of this beautiful beach. The landscape is ideal for capturing images that will resonate with you for the rest of your life. The sand is white and clean, the water is crystal clear and when the winds aren’t blowing in a northerly direction, you’ve got the makings of a perfect place to do a bit of swimming or even sailing.

As was mentioned, the northerly winds can be a bit treacherous. If you’re looking to do any water sports as the wind blows, you may want to reconsider. Though beautiful, the water is nothing to manoeuvre through if you’re inexperienced --and even the brave and experienced should have the common sense to know it would be a dangerous idea to explore treacherous waters. However, when the water is just right, you should take the opportunity to do a little snorkeling. The water life is limited; however, there’s nothing wrong with a little underwater exploration if you’re up for it.

As with most of the beaches on the West End of the St. Thomas, you’re better off remaining on the beach and enjoying your day from there. As a part of the incredibly seclusion and privacy you’ll enjoy, you’ll have to face the fact that there are little to no amenities at your disposal. If you want to relax on the beach, you’ll have to bring your own provisions --that means if you’re looking to spend the day on the beach, be sure to bring a picnic basket and a blanket for lounging on the beach.

The sand is incredibly soft, so don’t neglect to do a bit of exploring. If you’ve brought your own modes of entertainment, then you should think about bringing something to occupy your time. The beach is perfect for playing a bit of beach ball. You can also take in some of the gorgeous rays of the sun to get that perfect sun tan that you’ve always wanted. You won’t be bothered as most tourists will find their way to the more highly developed beaches. So, you’ve virtually got the entire beach to yourself to relax, play, and swim to your heart’s content.
