St. Thomas Day Sail -- Continue
Charters are available for half and full day trips, dinner and sunset cruises, snorkeling expeditions, and overnight trips to other islands. Prices for day sailing range from $75 to $175 per person, depending on the size and condition of the charter boat, and the length of the trip. Day trips and sunset trips may sometimes be combined and average around $215 per person. Tickets for children (those who are 12 and under) usually cost less than tickets for adults, but it depends on the charter boat. Breakfast, lunch, open bar, snorkeling equipment, vests, floatation mats, and various water toys are usually included in this fee.
Day sailing begins with a light breakfast and snacks, and then guests are invited to enjoy Margaritas, Bloody Marys, and Rum punches. For lunch, guests are sometimes escorted to local restaurants, such as Peter Island, Foxy's Taboo, Pusser's, or Soggy Dollar Bar. Charters that offer their own lunch may include options such as garden salads, sauteed chicken, basmati rice, apple slivers, grapes, and French bread with butter. Soda, beer, wine, and cocktails are also generally included.
After lunch, guests are provided with snorkeling instructions and are invited to go snorkeling. Popular destinations include the Coral Reef National Monument, the Inner Lagoon Marine Preserve, the Buck Island turtle sanctuary, the caves at Norman Island, or other locations. Aside from turtles, The Caribbean Sea is home to a variety of sea life, including conchs, octopi, stingrays, starfish, and an array of tropical fish, all which may be viewed in their natural habitats. A crew member usually accompanies snorkelers and points out interesting facts about each destination. Guests who don't want to go snorkeling may take dinghy trips to beaches or lounge in water toys provided by the crew. Sometimes guests are even invited to take the helm and learn how to sail.
Guests who are interested in a more romantic atmosphere can opt to take a dinner cruise. Guests begin these cruises by spending time on the deck, watching the sunset, and enjoying mixed drinks. Dinner items may include filet mignon, lobster, mahi mahi, island-style Caribbean chicken, and shrimp fussilli. Freshly-brewed coffee and desserts are offered at the end of the meal, including fudge brownies and ice cream.
It is generally suggested that guests bring cameras, towels, sunscreen, and additional cash for gratuity and souvenirs, such as hats and t-shirts. Credit cards are accepted for ticket payments. Passports are only needed in the case of sailing to the British Virgin Islands.
